A friend recommended I try Tableau Software (www.tableausoftware.com) and it is fantastic for a free tool. You can create any kind of heat maps you want, and save the output to the web, PDFs, etc.

Agree with previous commenter and
Not only does it link to the wrong gadget (org chart gadget is not the heatmap gadget!), it does not explain how to format USA state locations - the example only lists country codes. I have heatmap data to plot that corresponds to US cities/metro areas.
